There is lots to see and do in Kurumgad and its neighbouring islands. Be it scuba diving or snorkeling or dolphin sighting boat rides Kurumgad has something unique to offer its patrons. A land exhalted as divine by Rabindra Nath Tagore Karwar and Kurumgad has a lot more to offer if you are on a long vacation. 50 Kms on either sides Kurumgad has Gokarna and Goa!
Devbagh an island off the coast of Karwar about three nautical miles from Kurumgad and practically an hour away from Goa is a beautiful beach destination, and for that matter just the perfect weekend destination from Bangalore if you are looking for a secluded weekend away. Devbagh is 10 nautical miles off the Karwar coast and the only way to reach Devbagh is by boat from the Karwar jetty about 10 kms from the Karwar bus stand. Devbagh is one of the farthest destinations from Bangalore however Devbagh is definitely worth the effort.
Karwar the nearest jetty from Devbagh in itself is a tourist destination in northern Karnataka. Karwar is famous for the Tagore beach at the confluence of the Kali river and the Arabian sea, is a thin strip of white sand beach just ideal for a walk. About 6 kms from Karwar town across the Kali river is the Sadashivgad fort built on a small hill. There is an ancient durga temple near the Sadashivgad fort. The Karwar port earlier known as Baithkol is also worth a visit.
Palolem - Goa
Celebrated as one of the best 10 beaches in the world Palolem beach in south Goa is approximately 40 kms from Karwar. Palolem a tranquil beach is an ideal place to just relax and is another location ideal for scuba diving in this region.
Gokarna - the land of hippie sadhus!
Approximately 50 Kms from Karwar is Gokarna one of the primere beach destinations in Karnataka. With many secluded beaches and some of the most revered temples in Karnataka Gokarna has two shades about it. The tranquility of the temples is on one side and the vibrancy and youth of the tourist destination on the other and its prudent not to mix the two!
